Dovizioso vs Marquez in FP1, with Pol Espargaro close in P3

The top two in the Championship are the early pace setters, as Espargaro shines in Spain

Championship leader Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) drew first blood at the Gran Premio Red Bull de España, with world title rival Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) just 0.007 seconds behind the Italian in P2. Fresh off the back of a new KTM deal, Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was super impressive in the morning session, ending FP1 in just 0.043 off Dovizioso’s quickest time.

Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) was fourth on board his Ducati machine, with teammate Jack Miller rounding out the top five. Nine-time Jerez race winner Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had a positive start to his weekend in sixth, 0.220 off P1, while Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) set his fastest time on his final fun to end the session in seventh.
