Dominant Dovi leads Ducati quartet in FP1

Italian heads Petrucci, Miller and Lorenzo on Friday morning as Ducati come out the blocks flying in Aragon

Andrea Dovizioso’s (Ducati Team) FP1 pace matched the scorching weather at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon as the Italian topped the opening premier class session of the weekend with a 1:48.020, faster than the race lap record at the circuit, with fellow Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) the only man to get within seven tenths of his best time – 0.190 back.

Third was Jack Miller on board his Alma Pramac Racing machine, the Australian was 0.714 back from Dovizioso’s benchmark time and 0.017 ahead of fourth place Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) – Ducati looking dominant in MotoGP™ FP1.

It was a positive start for Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) as he ended the session in fifth, just 0.052 behind Lorenzo, with Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) sixth quickest in FP1. Just 0.001 split the number 93 from compatriot Viñales, with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) seventh.

Xavier Simeon (Reale Avintia Racing) had a mechanical failure at Turn 1 late in the session, with Viñales having to get a push back to pit lane by Miller at the end of the session after encountering an issue when lining up for the practice starts.

Tune in for FP2 at 14:05 local time (GMT +2) to see if anyone can top the Ducatis on Day 1 in Aragon.
