Marquez & Lorenzo: burying the hatchet

Jorge Lorenzo’s (Ducati Team) race at MotorLand Aragon definitely didn’t go to plan. Highsiding at the first corner as he got on the power and the bike flicked him up and over, it didn’t leave him unscathed either – with a dislocated big toe and fractured second metatarsal. But initially, the bigger talking point for the five-time World Champion was the cause of the incident…and he laid the blame squarely at the feet of 2019 Repsol Honda teammate Marc Marquez.

The two have history and it began in 2013 when Marquez lunged up the inside at the final corner in Jerez, made contact with Lorenzo and the two went wide. The number 99 made his ire clear in parc ferme and things got a little tense.

By the end of the season though, their rivalry had become even fiercer on track and yet lost a lot of its sting. Despite missing out on the title at the season finale in Valencia, race winner Lorenzo pulled Marquez – the man who took the crown – onto the top step of the podium with him to celebrate.

Since, the two have had some incredible battles (have a look through their on track history here) and their fair share of disagreements. But after the race on Sunday it looked like this one could be something a bit bigger.

Now, though? Phone calls and a little time to cool off mean we head for Thailand with the air very much cleared. Lorenzo says, "Now my version has been clarified, I want to communicate to you all that this afternoon I received a call from Marquez asking me about my condition, it was honorable for him to do that." Marquez? "Get well soon! See you in Thailand."
