Kornfeil fastest as action gets underway in Japan

Czech rider finishes ahead of Canet and Bastianini in Moto3™ FP1

Jakub Kornfeil (Redox PruestelGP) topped the opening session of the weekend at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan after setting a 1:57.740 to beat Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) – who crashed in the session shortly after going quickest – by 0.108 as the top two were the only riders to dip below the 1:58 bracket.

Third in Moto3™ FP1 was Enea Bastianini (Leopard Racing), 0.336 from top spot, with teammate Lorenzo Dalla Porta just over a tenth further back in P4. John McPhee (CIP – Green Power) completes the top five on Friday morning, 0.012 behind Dalla Porta.

Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse) and Tony Arbolino (Marinelli Snipers Team) crashed – riders ok, with Adam Norrodin (Petronas Sprinta Racing) taken to the medical centre after his crash. Darryn Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was unable to get a substantial amount of track time under his belt due to technical issues on his KTM.

FP2 for the lightweight class will begin at 13:10 local time (GMT +9).
