Lecuona leads the way by 0.798 in Moto2™ FP1

It stayed wet for the intermediate class as they headed out in Valencia for the first time this weekend, Marquez and Oliveira complete top 3

Iker Lecuona (Swiss Innovative Investors) kick-started his Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana in great fashion, the Spaniard going quickest in the wet conditions after setting a 1:46.705 to head Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) by 0.798.

There was no sign of the rain stopping and it was Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) who completed the opening intermediate class session of the weekend in P3 – the Portuguese rider the only other man to get within a second of Lecuona’s time. Despite crashing, Joe Roberts (NTS RW Racing GP) ended the session in P4, 1.002 back from top spot, with Lorenzo Baldassarri (Pons HP40) completing the top five.

There was a whole host of crashed during Moto2™ FP1: Federico Fuligni (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2), his teammate Simone Corsi crashed, Italtrans Racing Team duo Mattia Pasini and Andrea Locatelli, Xavi Cardelus (Marinelli Snipers Team), Tetsuta Nagashima (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), Isaac Viñales (Forward Racing Team), Tech 3 Racing’s Remy Gardner, Jesko Raffin (SAG Team) and Steven Odendaal (NTS RW Racing GP) went down – riders ok, with Fuligni heading to the medical centre for a checkup.

FP2 for the Moto2™ class will commence at 15:05 local time (GMT +1).
