Antonelli over a tenth clear in Moto3™ FP1

Italian begins his home Grand Prix in solid fashion to lead Rodrigo and McPhee on Friday morning in Mugello

SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Niccolo Antonelli began his weekend at the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley by topping the timesheets in Moto3™ FP1 after setting a 1:58.188, the Italian going 0.136 faster than second place Gabriel Rodrigo (Kömmerling Gresini Moto3) with Le Mans race winner John McPhee (Petronas Sprinta Racing) completing the top three.

Sunny skies were the order of Friday morning for the lightweight class as they got down to work at Mugello, with track conditions always a bit dirty in the opening stages of the session. The times slowly crept down as the riders reacquainted themselves with this stunning circuit and it was an Italian who emerged fastest in FP1, with Rodrigo and McPhee the only riders within 0.4 of Antonelli.

Fourth was another Italian rider, Leopard Racing’s Lorenzo Dalla Porta finished 0.420 off his compatriot, with Championship leader Aron Canet (Sterilgarda Max Racing Team) rounding out a top five covered by 0.499 seconds.

The Moto3™ riders will be back out for FP2 at 13:15 local time (GMT+2).
