Fantasy MotoGP 2008 Winner
The winner of last year’s MotoGP prediction game was 51 year-old Dutchman Willem who lives in noord-Brabant in the south of the Netherlands and is a huge fan of the World Championship. As his star prize he chose a distinctive Shinya Nakano replica helmet, which he says is one of his most prized possessions.
When motogp.com caught up with Willem we asked him a few question about MotoGP in 2009 and his formidable predictive skills...
Q. So Willem, without giving away too many secrets, how do you manage to make your predictions with such accuracy?
A. I have a good look at the riders and how they’re doing on track and I also look closely at the specific track conditions. But most of all you’ve got to have a little luck!
Q. Do you use the same techniques and methods every time you play?
A. Most of the time I do. It works for me so why change it.
Q. Who are your favourite riders in MotoGP at present?
A. Number one is Valentino Rossi, as he is the champion of champions. I also like Casey Stoner, Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards. I have to mention Colin because he signed my bike!
Q. Why did you pick the Shinya Nakano helmet?
A. That’s simple. Because of the cartoon eyes in the design.
Q. As an avid and knowledgeable MotoGP follower what are your predictions for the 2009 season? Who do you think will win the title?
A. It will be difficult to call this year because the advantage of the different tyres is gone. Rossi will try to get yet another title and Stoner wants it back. But they know that Dani Pedrosa, Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso will be fighting too. My prediction would be Stoner as champion, with Rossi very close to him in the final standings. I think Dovizioso will be third.
