Where to for Pedrosa?

Where to for Pedrosa?

Dani Pedrosa’s future has been at the centre of paddock gossip, the situation growing more uncertain each day. Maverick Viñales has made it no secret that he has an offer on the table from Yamaha and many had believed he was the odds on favourite to take the seat left open by Jorge Lorenzo.

But, ahead of the French GP, British newspaper MCN reported that an inside source had revealed to them that Dani Pedrosa would make a shock move to the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team in 2017. MCN’s speculations were support by major Spanish newspaper El País who added further details to the story.

The journalist, Nadia Tronchoni, from El País who originally revealed the story went on Cadena SER, a Catalan radio station, to discuss yet more details. It’s believed that the announcement will come just ahead of Mugello, Tronchoni stating that Suzuki had used their right of first refusal as specified in the contract with Viñales.

However, La Vanguardia, another leading Spanish newspaper, understand that Pedrosa is in fact set to remain with the Repsol Honda Team. The contract with HRC is believed to be more or less set in stone and will be announce during the Mugello weekend. The new deal will see Pedrosa remain with the factory team for two more years; contract negotiations accelerated due to the Yamaha rumours.

Two different versions of Pedrosa’s future exist and only one will become true. Be sure to stay tuned during Mugello.
