Gresini sign Di Giannantonio, 2022 MotoGP™ seat possible

According to Sky Sport MotoGP, the Catalan GP Moto2™ podium finisher will join former team Gresini in the intermediate class for 2021

According to Sky Sport Italia MotoGP, Speed Up’s Fabio Di Giannantonio has signed a two-year deal with Gresini which will see him compete with his former team in the 2021 Moto2™ season, before a potential MotoGP™ seat opens up for the Italian in 2022.

Di Giannantonio competed with Gresini in Moto3™ for three years, picking up 14 podiums and two wins in that time before finishing second to teammate Jorge Martin in the 2018 title race. 'Diggia' then claimed the Moto2™ Rookie of the Year accolade last season and despite a difficult 2020 campaign – until the Barcelona rostrum – the Italian is one of the brightest prospects aiming to land a MotoGP™ ride in the near future.

And with the new contract that is being heavily rumoured, a 2022 ride with Gresini in the premier class is seemingly on the cards. Sky Sport are reporting that the second year of his contract is a guaranteed ride in MotoGP™ with Gresini – currently teamed up with Aprilia – should the Italian perform in 2021. Exciting times for Di Giannantonio as we await official confirmation from Gresini ahead of the upcoming French GP.
