Aprilia Racing Team Gresini's Aleix Espargaro has his future in the MotoGP™ World Championship sorted, after signing a two-year extension with the Noale factory late last week. His brother, Pol Espargaro's future, however, is anything but clear with rumours continuing to link him with a move away from KTM and into the Repsol Honda garage alongside World Champion Marc Marquez.
Aleix Espargaro gives his reasons for renewing with Aprilia
Neither KTM nor Honda have, as of yet, commented on the rumours, with Repsol Honda Team Manager Alberto Puig simply stating that the current pause in racing due to the COVID-19 pandemic "does not mean that Honda stops continuing to plan the best possible future". Now, in an interview with Spanish broadcaster RTVE's sports channel TeleDeporte, Aleix Espargaro has had his say on the rumours admitting that whenever Honda calls, it's hard to turn them down.
"KTM is pushing hard because they value him a lot," said the elder Espargaro brother. "And they want him to stay, but I don't know to what extent Honda is going to love or not love my brother. But, in the end, when Ferrari calls you, for example, it is very difficult to say no to Ferrari. We will see, I think Repsol Honda is the 'dream team' in the history of the MotoGP World Championship and if you have that option, it will not be easy to say no to them".
