Casey Stoner recalls his weekend´s work in Catalunya

Last weekend in Barcelona started badly for me, as we just couldn´t find a decent set-up in the first qualifying session, and then my gear-box went in the second session the next day when we were beginning to make progress. That meant I wasn´t really able to fine tune my race set-up and had to take a bit of a chance for Sunday. In the race itself I got away to an awful start, I choked the bike too much off the line and got it too rich. Nearly everyone passed me, and I got to the first corner second last and had to work really hard to climb through the field, but the bike went well and in the end, after a good scrap with Matsudo I managed to get past and hold on for sixth.

It was my second sixth place of the season, and although I was happy with it I would have liked to have had more points by this stage. I suppose it helped that last weekend we were at a track I knew from past races, but really everything is still new for me this year. I´m having to learn to ride all the tracks, even those I have been at before, because riding a 250 there is completely different from what I used to do on a 125, and means I have to learn throughout the race weekends.

I had Chaz (Davies) staying in my motorhome for the race in Barcelona which was good. We´ve known each other from our days in the English and Spanish championships and have always got on well. I think he was the first rider I met in England, and it´s always nice to have someone around at race weekends who you can hang around with and have fun with.

Following the race I´ve been in Spain all week, just relaxing before the next round which is in Assen. Again, it´s another one I´ve never been to before. I´ll be heading off there in the motorhome, and we´ll probably begin our journey at the end of the week. I know they´ve made some changes to the track in Assen for the race this year, but as I´ve never raced there it won´t make any difference to me. I have played the circuit a lot on the Playstation game though, so I have an idea of how it is and that´s helped at some of the other tracks.
