Ajo Motorsports turn their attentions to Pesek

Ajo Motorsports believe they have finally discovered the talent to fill the void left by their protégé Mika Kallio. The Finnish team, who spotted Kallio in a national ice racing series and groomed him into a 125cc Grand Prix frontrunner only for him to quit and join KTM midway through last season, have signed up the Czech youngster Lukas Pesek for his first full season at 125cc World Championship level in 2004.

Pesek enjoyed a brief flirtation with the 250cc series last year, when he joined the Yamaha Kurz team for the final eight races of the season, scoring three points. However, Team Manager Aki Ajo believes he didn't get chance to demonstrate his true talent and says he can be a force to be reckoned with over the coming seasons.

"I have followed Lukas' good performances since 2001 in the European Championship and from the very beginning I noticed what a keen and professional attitude he has for his racing," said Ajo. "I believe that when he started in Grand Prix last season, it was a little bit too early for him to move to 250cc and especially when it happened in the middle of season - the results do not give the right picture of his skills. Anyhow, it gave him a good basis for next season and it is good that he is already familiar with many circuits."

"Now he has returned back to 125cc, I am sure that his Grand Prix career will get a boost and when he gets some experience in 125cc World Championship racing he has all the abilities to start to create a long career in the series on a step by step basis and some day race among the top riders."
