Talmacsi wins 125 thriller in Holland

Red Bull KTM's Gabor Talmacsi has won the 125 Dutch TT on the circuit Van Drenthe in Assen, ahead of Hector Faubel and Mattia Pasini. In one of the most riveting 125 showdowns this season, the Hungarian emerged victor ahead of a close pack which fought for top positions all through the race.

In the early stages of the race, an eight-rider pack quickly formed at the front with Marco Simoncelli, Thomas Lüthi, Mika Kallio, Alvaro Bautista, Gabor Talmacsi, Alexis Masbou, Mattia Pasini and Hector Faubel. The riders swapped positions constantly and no-one was able to break away.

The pack lost one of its main protagonists on lap 14, with Mika Kallio crashing out. Then the last lap was marred by further incidents, as Simoncelli went out with only a few corners to go just after being demoted to second by Talmacsi – an incident which also cost time to Lüthi, who was forced out of the track and rejoined the race to eventually take 10th.

"This race wasn't easy because there was a big group, but I tried to stay at the front, in the top 3," explained the Hungarian. "On the last lap, Simoncelli made a mistake and I was first, I had to push hard to stay there. Now I'm at the front in the Championship, so all looks very good for the future!"

Behind podium finishers Faubel and Pasini, Bautista took fourth ahead of Masbou. After this seventh round of the 125cc World Championship, Talmacsi and Pasini are joint leaders, tied on 100 points, while Lüthi stands in third overall with 89 points.
