Rule changes: FIM Announcement

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) has announced various changes to the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations after a meeting of the Grand Prix Commission held on Saturday at Brno.

One of the modifications will be applied immediately: a change to the start procedure in the event of a race that has been interrupted. Instead of two warm-up laps as for a normal start, the riders will only have a single warm-up lap ahead of the re-start.

Other changes will be introduced at the start of the 2006 season. In the 125cc and 250cc classes, 'rookie' riders will be allowed to compete in other events held at Grand Prix circuits in Europe during the season.

The Commission also agreed on a change regarding fuel tank technical regulations. As from 2006, in all classes fuel tanks made of non-metallic composite materials will have to be fitted with a fuel cell bladder or have passed the appropriate FIM test standards.
