Briton´s got talent: Scott Redding talks through history making Donington victory

Having ridden his way into the record books as the youngest ever Grand Prix winner, Scott Redding set his sights on continuing his roll.

It was a history-making race in every sense; the 125cc British Grand Prix saw the youngest Grand Prix podium, a first British winner at Donington Park and -when the dust settled- a youngest World Championship victor in 15 year-old Scott Redding.

The Gloucestershire rookie, blooded early on the world stage after some peerless performances in the CEV Buckler Spanish Championship, had the weight of a nation on his young shoulders as they put their hopes in him for the opening Sunday race. He was starting from fourth on the grid, with a view to victory at a track which -despite his nationality- he had only raced at once before.

Whilst polite queuing is a British trait, Redding had to be forceful in search of the holeshot, as he explained with the adrenaline still pumping through his veins. `I pushed at the first corner, with (Marc) Marquez and (Simone) Corsi; they touched and I just went round the outside and hoped for the best. I pushed and pushed, thinking that I was either going to crash or win the race.´

The Blusens Aprilia rider managed to close down leader Andrea Iannone for his troubles, and piled the pressure on the Italian after sensing fear. `He kept looking back, so I knew he was worried,´ added Redding. `I kept at him, and then the wind on Craner Curve took him off. After that I just took things steady and brought it home.´

The taste of victory was sweet for the home rider, but he now has an added hunger for podiums to satiate in his first World Championship season.

`It´s another record broken, but I´m going to try to break some more and get a few more podiums this year,´ concluded the teenager, and few would doubt that he is capable of doing so.
