Tickets still available for Australian Grand Prix

With the Australian Grand Prix just over a month away the increased capacity at Phillip Island after last year´s bumper event means tickets for the 2008 race are still available.

Though Casey Stoner has a big task on his hands if he is to retain the MotoGP title the overall competitiveness of his Bridgestone-shod Ducati Desmosedici GP8 package means he will have every chance of being the Phillip Island race winner again this season – just as he was last time out, having already clinched the 2007 World title.

Fans will turn out in their thousands again to watch Stoner and his fellow Australians, Chris Vermeulen and Anthony West, doing battle with the likes of standings leader Valentino Rossi, 250cc double World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and the talented Repsol Honda star Dani Pedrosa.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding commented, `The Australian Grand Prix brings big-spending tourists, creates employment and business opportunities and provides Victorians with an opportunity to enjoy world-class entertainment in their own backyard.´

`The race is held at one of the most magnificent circuits in the world, situated in one of the most picturesque areas of Victoria, providing visitors to the region with a huge diversity of dramatic natural attractions to enjoy once the chequered flag comes down.´

Mr Holding also explained that additional grandstand seats have been made available to meet the strong demand for tickets and that corporate sales are up on last year.

`Last year´s race set attendance records as spectators turned out in force to welcome home an Australian World Champion for the first time in a decade,´ Mr Holding added. `Ticket sales are again strong and we are expecting a bumper crowd to attend over the three days to again cheer on the three Australians in the premier class.´

Tickets for the remaining five rounds of the 2008 season, including the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island on the 3rd-5th October weekend, are available via our Race Tickets section.
