Toth leads the way in wet 250cc run

As the 250cc riders warmed up for the Polini Grand Prix of Japan on a wet track it was Team Toth Aprilia’s Imre Toth setting the pace.

Despite qualifying in 20th place at Motegi, Sunday morning’s fastest 250cc rider at the Japanese track was Imre Toth (Team Toth Aprilia) who led the way with a 2’04.005 lap in the warm-up session extended to half an hour in duration, after the lack of qualifying action on Saturday afternoon.

Just after the end of the session heavy rainfall began to drop at the scene for round two of the World Championship, meaning the 250cc riders can expect a similarly wet track when their race commences at 1.15pm local time.

Half a second behind Toth on the timesheets were home rider Hiroshi Aoyama (Scot Racing Team), Raffaele de Rosa (also Scot Racing) and Roberto Locatelli (Metis Gilera), in a top five completed by Álvaro Bautista (Master Mapfre).

Gabor Talmacsi (Balatonring Team), Héctor Faubel (Valencia CF – Honda SAG), Mattia Pasini (Team Toth Aprilia), Mike di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar Team) and Álex Debón (Aeroport Castello-Blusens) were all in the top ten, whilst Metis Gilera’s poleman and World Champion Marco Simoncelli took things easy down in 16th place after a crash in the rain on Saturday.
