Elías wants to stay in MotoGP but considers Moto2 options

Toni Elías will wait until the visits to Phillip Island or Sepang to decide on his World Championship future.

Although the MotoGP grid for 2010 appears to be almost complete, current San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Toni Elías is still unsure as to whether he will continue in the premier class next year – although one thing he does know is that he will not be in the same team next season having lost his Gresini ride already.

Chatting to in the Estoril paddock on Friday, having finished 15th in FP1, Elías stated his intention to continue in the MotoGP class for a sixth consecutive year, in 2010. “I will wait for Phillip Island and Sepang to see what options come up in MotoGP,” stated the Catalan rider, “But I want to be in the top six. If that is not possible I will go to Moto2 next season.”

Elías appears to have limited chances to continue in MotoGP, with only his former team Pramac Racing and Hayate Racing yet to announce their 2010 plans, but he is nonetheless staying focused for the last four races of the year.

On his troubles on Friday at Estoril on Friday meanwhile, he commented, “Things were a bit difficult, as we had a problem with traction on cornering and it has lost me lots of time. But it’s only the first session and we hope to improve on Saturday.”
