Simón in control again on Saturday morning

Julián Simón is setting a rapid pace at the Grande Premio de Portugal as he continues his title quest.

Having set the pace on Friday with a best lap which was more than a second quicker than the rest of the field at Estoril the Spanish competitor repeated the trick at the Portuguese circuit on Saturday morning.

The Bancaja Aspar rider took approximately half a second off his own best Friday effort, lapping in 1’45.356 onboard his factory Aprilia machine, to put himself clear at the top of the timesheet by 1.009s ahead of Sandro Cortese (Ajo Interwetten).

Nico Terol (Jack & Jones Team) was around two tenths behind Cortese in third place, as he seeks to prevent Simón clinching the title this weekend. Pol Espargaró (Derbi Racing Team) and Simone Corsi (Jack & Jones Team) were in the top five.

Sergio Gadea (Bancaja Aspar), Joan Olivé (Derbi Racing Team), Marc Márquez (Red Bull KTM), Bradley Smith (Bancaja Aspar) and Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) also featured at the business end of the timesheet.
