The LCR Honda rider completed a race simulation at the second test of the year in Malaysia, and was pleased with the work he and his team did on the suspension and base set-up of his bike.
Randy de Puniet left Sepang very satisfied after progress was made on his RC212V machine, having improved his lap time from the previous test at the circuit by 1.063 seconds.
The Frenchman’s best time of 2’01.980 at the second official test of the year was evidence of the work done in the three weeks since the first test, and De Puniet rode 134 laps across both days at Sepang on Thursday and Friday.
“If we consider the two days in total we made some progress with the suspension set-up which was our main issue in the first outing here some weeks ago,” said De Puniet. “Basically we have worked to develop the machine base set-up using the data we gathered before and I am pretty satisfied about this second test session and about the lap time I have clocked up today (Friday). It could be even better as, at the end of the day, we have found a better suspension set-up to test but we only had used tyres left.”
De Puniet was pleased to have amassed an impressive number of laps and feels positive ahead of the final test of the year in Qatar, which is scheduled for March 18-19.
“We did a race simulation and I feel more comfortable on the bike thanks to the step forward we made on the machine balance and on the weight distribution. Of course there is still work to do but I am more confident now ahead the last test session in Qatar.”
