Takahashi takes top time on day two

The Japanese rider of the Tech3 Racing team is the fastest Moto2 rider on Sunday at Jerez, ahead of Scott Redding and Anthony West. Toni Elías remains the quickest of the Test so far.

Yuki Takahashi topped the timesheet on day two of the Official Test at Jerez on Sunday, with his best time from the Moto2-only session this afternoon. A lap of 1’44.552 was an improvement of almost a full second from his time in the mixed morning session (1’45.496), and was almost five-tenths off Toni Elías’ best time from Saturday.

“In every Test, on every day, we continue improving and finding interesting solutions that are allowing us to define the best path,” said Takahashi, whose display today was a huge advancement for the former MotoGP rider.

In second place and also making a great step up was British rider Scott Redding of the Marc VDS Racing team. The young Englishman was the fastest of the mixed early session (which ended at 3.50pm local time) with a time of 1’44.600, which handed him second spot in the combined standings for the day.

MZ Racing rider Anthony West’s time of 1’44.614 from the early session maintained a very close check on that of Redding, and placed the Australian third overall as he maintained his competitive pre-season form. West’s time put him ahead of Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) and Elías (Gresini Racing) who were fourth and fifth respectively.

Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing), Alex de Angelis (Scot Racing) and Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) completed the top eight for the combined times of Sunday. Niccolò Canepa (Scot Racing) had a heavy fall, but luckily escaped injury.
