Antonio Banderas unveils his World Championship entry

The Hollywood star attended an event in Madrid as his team for the Moto2 World Championship made its official presentation.

World famous Spanish actor and renowned sports fan Antonio Banderas underlined his passion for motorcycling in Madrid with the official presentation of his Moto2 team, Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas, on Monday. The structure, which will compete in the World Championship with riders Kenny Noyes and Joan Olivé on board Promoharris prototypes, begins its campaign this weekend in Qatar at the first race of the season on April 11th.

Banderas, who owns five motorcycles himself, is embarking on his first sport-related business venture. In 2009 he held discussions with a MotoGP team which contacted him with regards to a possible project, but he has waited until now to make the move into the World Championship, with his Moto2 team.

Making it clear that he intends to be as engaged as possible with the development and progression of the team, Banderas said: “I want to be involved with the team where the riders, both Joan and Kenny, have everything they need to compete at the highest level.”

Furthermore, Banderas intends to accompany the riders as often as possible. “I will go to every race I can, but obviously this depends on my professional workload with film and theatre,” stated Banderas, who for the moment has said he will be present at Indianapolis and Silverstone, and also one of the four races held in Spain. He added: “I am a motorcycle lover, and I’ve been a big fan in recent years. This gave me the opportunity to compete on the inside and I didn’t have to think about it!”

Speaking about the Moto2 category in which his team will compete this year, Banderas added: “I think it’s very interesting and that we’re going to see the true qualities of the riders. Everyone has the same engine, which is very powerful and will underline the skill of every team and their technical staff. They will have the opportunity to advance the bikes as they look for the perfect balance for the riders.”
