Top five achievable in Qatar believes Redding

Top five achievable in Qatar believes Redding

The British rider of the Marc VDS Racing Team is in confident mood ahead of the first ever race of the Moto2 category.

It will be an exciting debut in the World Championship for the Marc VDS Racing Team in Qatar this weekend, and with British rider Scott Redding and Spaniard Héctor Faubel taking forward the challenge there is a real sense of expectation ahead of the opening round of the 2010 season.

A strong performance in the final Test at Jerez which saw Redding set the fourth fastest time was the culmination of some solid progress throughout pre-season from the 17 year-old Brit, and he has set his sights on a top-five finish at Losail.

“The final Test in Jerez was a big boost in confidence for us, as I was able to run top five on the timesheet on all three days. The team has to take a lot of the credit for this; the way of working is ultra-professional and it's a real pleasure to be a part of. All this means we head for Qatar knowing we are capable of securing a good result for the team and repaying the faith that Marc van der Straten (Team President) has shown in us,” said Redding, before explaining his aims for the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar.

“The team have given me a target of top ten this weekend and I'd be relatively happy with that, but I really do believe that a top five finish is on the cards if everything goes as smoothly as it did in Jerez. It will be interesting to see how Héctor adapts to the bike, but I'm sure it won't be long before he's pushing me hard on the track."

Faubel does not have the benefit of pre-season Testing having only been confirmed as the second entry for the team last week, but with a 125cc win at Losail in 2007 he has experience at the circuit.

The Spanish rider knows the first race will be a tough introduction on the Suter chassis, and said: "The last months have been hard, trying to find a ride for this season but, finally, we found a great place with the Marc VDS Racing Team. For that I would like to thank Marc van der Straten and Michael Bartholemy (Team Manager) for their trust in me. I want to make a great job for the team, but I know it's going to be hard at the start.”

Faubel continued: “I haven't tested the bike at all yet, so I will need some time during the first two races to get up to speed. Hopefully I will be on the pace by the time we return to Europe for the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez. I've been training hard in the winter, and Qatar is one of my favourite circuits; I have good memories of winning the 125cc race there in 2007. Now I cannot wait to arrive in Qatar, meet all the team members and start to work with the Suter MMX bike."
