Bradl tops Moto2 warm-up in Qatar

The German rider is the quickest in the 20-minute session ahead of the debut race of the new intermediate category later this evening.

Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) led the way in warm-up as the historic first-ever Moto2 race edged nearer at Losail. The German rider, who has qualified in third position for the inaugural race of the new intermediate category, set a best lap time of 2’02.937 to head up the session on board his Suter prototype.

Following in second spot was Interwetten Moriwaki Racing rider Thomas Lüthi at a fraction under three-hundredths off Bradl, the only other rider under 2’03” mark, with Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo) and Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot) both also inside the top four times.

Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag-CIP), Yuki Takahashi (Tech3 Racing) and pole position holder Toni Elías (Gresini Racing Moto2) completed the top eight, with Kenny Noyes (Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas) and Mike di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar) ninth and tenth respectively.

Vladimir Ivanov (Gresini Racing Moto2) had a crash when he went down early in the session, whilst Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) and Takahashi both had run-offs that they managed to handle well.

The Moto2 race is scheduled to start at 9.15pm local time.
