Pedrosa wraps up Jerez Test with top time

The Repsol Honda rider tops the timesheet at the end of the Official MotoGP Test day, with Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Randy de Puniet and Andrea Dovizioso all performing well.

Dani Pedrosa was the fastest rider in the Official MotoGP Test at Jerez on Monday, leading the times on his factory RC212V after an impressive day’s work with his Repsol Honda team. Following on from his second place in Sunday’s Gran Premio bwin de España, the Spaniard’s time of 1’39.425 from earlier in the day stood firm to make him quickest as he racked up 60 laps throughout the entire day.

Recovering from a fall at 1.30pm Valentino Rossi returned to the track on his factory M1 to set the second best lap of the Test, 0.055s off Pedrosa. The Italian, who worked on engine variations and a new Bridgestone front tyre (as did team-mate Jorge Lorenzo) also sought to solve a problem with entry into corners which proved a problem in Sunday’s race.

Lorenzo was only fractionally off Rossi’s time (+0.026s) as he amassed 71 laps, and LCR Honda rider Randy de Puniet was within two-tenths of Pedrosa as he looked to prepare his bike for his home GP at Le Mans in round three.

Also inside the top five times and at just 0.335s off team-mate Pedrosa was Andrea Dovizioso, with the Italian making progress with a new swingarm used by his Spanish colleague in the race.

Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden did not improve further on the times they set in the morning on their Desmosedici GP10 prototypes as the Ducati Marlboro duo put in 66 and 70 laps each, with eighth fastest in the Test being Ben Spies. The Monster Yamaha Tech3 man and his team-mate Colin Edwards were separated inside the top ten by Rizla Suzuki rider Loris Capirossi, who tested a new chassis and swingarm as well as the front tyre. The veteran Italian’s rookie team-mate Álvaro Bautista experienced a crash at Turn 1 in the afternoon, as he worked on the same aspects as his colleague.

The next Test for the riders will be on August 16th, the day after the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske Republiky.
