Gavin Emmett’s early Assen impressions

Gavin Emmett’s early Assen impressions

After FP1 at the TIM TT Assen the commentator gives his thoughts on who could be progressing towards victory. You can make your own predictions in the Official Fantasy MotoGP game as well!

Day one at Assen and it was a close battle for supremacy in the MotoGP opening practice session as Jorge Lorenzo beat Casey Stoner to the top time by 0.011s. Having commentated on FP1’s Gavin Emmett gave his early impressions of how round six could go.

“It’s good to see the Ducati Marlboro riders up there and Stoner’s time was so close to Lorenzo’s” said Gavin. “Lorenzo looks good, smooth and confident and the Yamaha always goes so well, and Colin Edwards’ time was up there too. Ben Spies looked good as well. Andrea Dovizioso was saying to me that his bike feels really strong, so you hope there will be more of a race than Lorenzo escaping at the front.”

Pushed for his race prediction, Gavin said: “I think Lorenzo will probably win, and then Stoner has to get a podium sooner rather than later. It’s between Hayden and Edwards for third!”

The Moto2 session was topped by Andrea Iannone, at 0.222s ahead of Championship leader Toni Elías, and Gavin thinks the intermediate category will be another tight affair.

“I think tomorrow will be when you start seeing everyone getting their settings down, and we should be able to tell more then,” he said. “After Silverstone I’m not predicting anything!”

The 125cc session was led by Nico Terol, but with Marc Márquez going for a third successive win Gavin thinks the young Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider could be the one to watch out for.

“I don’t see any reason why Márquez cannot make it a third win in a row, he certainly is very quick,” added Gavin. “It happens that as soon as they get a win it’s that instant confidence boost of knowing you can do it.”

You can test your own expertise against that of Gavin’s by playing the Official Fantasy MotoGP 2010 game. Submit your predictions for Saturday’s race now and be in with a chance of winning some great prizes!
