Victory for Andrea Iannone and a first podium of the season with third place for Gabor Talmacsi made it a weekend to celebrate for the team.
The Fimmco Speed Up team celebrated a double success at the Gran Premio A-Style de Aragón on Sunday as Andrea Iannone and Gabor Talmacsi both represented the Italian-based outfit on the podium.
For Iannone it was a third win of the season, one which came from pole position (as his previous two at Mugello and Assen also did) and which also lifted him into third position in the Championship standings where he now sits just four points off Julián Simón.
“I’m deeply happy with how this weekend went,” said Iannone, who was dominant throughout the practice sessions and qualifying too. “It wasn’t easy to get this kind of performance both in the practice sessions and in the race.”
“We came here after two difficult GPs, the ones in Indianapolis and Misano. It’s truly satisfying to race in Aragon and to score these great results during the whole weekend. It’s fantastic when there are good moments, as that’s the best reward I can offer to the team for their work.”
Iannone added: “I’m happy that Gabor got on the podium, I’d like to congratulate him. I hope that after this race he’ll manage to maintain the pace he set in this GP. We will do our best to be consistent and to have a good rhythm for the last races of the season.”
Former 125cc World Champion Talmacsi rose from seventh on the grid to achieve his first rostrum finish in the Moto2 class, a reward for all the hard work that has been put in by the Hungarian and his team.
“Of course this was our aim since the start of the season,” he explained. “In the beginning I didn’t have the same feeling Andrea has with this motorbike, but we kept working and we never gave in. We got to know each other as a team better and we stayed focused: finally the result has come.”
Talmacsi is now sixth in the Championship thanks to the regularity of his points-scoring finishes, having registered points in 11 of the 12 rounds to date.
“We’ve always been consistent, and now that we’ve got here I hope we can continue succeeding till the end of the year,” he concluded.
