Day of Champions at Valencia raises over €40,000

Fans present at the event at the Ricardo Tormo circuit on Thursday helped raise the sum for MotoGP’s official charity, Riders for Health, with the famous auction contributing to its great success.

Riders for Health, the official charity of MotoGP, gave fans in Spain the chance to get the final race weekend of the season off to the best possible start at Day of Champions in Valencia on Thursday 4th November.

Motos Solidarias, Riders for Health’s volunteer group in Spain, joined MotoGP teams and riders to open up the paddock to the public. Over 1,000 fans were treated to a great show and raised an incredible €40,996 to support Riders’ work, providing access to health care for millions of people in Africa.

Andrea Coleman, CEO of Riders for Health said: “Riders for Health have had an incredibly successful year with MotoGP and we have raised hundreds-of-thousands of Euros to support our work in Africa. Throughout the year everyone in the paddock gives their precious time to contribute to bringing health care to the people of Africa. I believe this is truly unique in sport. The money we have raised together will mean that thousands of people, who may have otherwise died of easily preventable and curable disease, will survive and have an opportunity to contribute to the future of Africa. By mobilising health workers and reaching millions of people with reliable health care, Riders for Health and MotoGP are showing that across Africa, motorcycles save lives.”

Fans were able to see behind the scenes of MotoGP as they visited the Pit Lane and collected autographs from their favourite MotoGP stars. The local Spanish favourites were all in attendance, whether it was on the Pit-Lane walk or at the auction.

Thirteen-times Grand Prix winner and Riders for Health co-founder Randy Mamola led a ride out for people who came by bike. And they were able to follow in the tyre tracks of the MotoGP stars, as they completed laps of the Ricado Tormo track.

The highlight of the day was the Day of Champions auction where the top MotoGP riders took to the stage to auction exclusive racing memorabilia.

Lots of riders appeared on stage raising thousands of Euros in just a few hours. The item raising the most money was a race helmet donated by Rizla Suzuki MotoGP rider Álvaro Bautista, which raised an incredible €1,900. A set of paddock passes raised €570 and the amazing chance to attend the end of season FIM MotoGP Awards Ceremony raised €500.
