Significant day at Valencia for De Puniet

Significant day at Valencia for De Puniet

The French rider completed his 200th Grand Prix and bade farewell to the LCR Honda team after three seasons together.

Randy de Puniet took a top-ten finish in his final race with LCR Honda at Valencia on Sunday, before making the switch to Pramac Racing for 2011. With the result the French rider finished 2010 in ninth position in the Championship, having enjoyed a strong early part of the campaign which was interrupted by a broken leg in Germany in July.

“I tried to give my best in this race and I've finished ninth in the Championship. Sure I would have been able to fight for the top six in the Championship if I wasn't injured, but that's life,” said the 29 year-old. “I gave my best and it's a special day being my 200th GP and the last one with LCR Honda. The technical staff have been incredible in these three years and I have great memories.”

He added: “It's a shame to leave now but it's a new challenge and i'm very happy to ride with Pramac Ducati next year. I hope I'll be very fast, and I think I will be because this bike is the bike for me!”

Reviewing the race, he continued: “After qualifying in 11th on the grid it was hard to expect better, even if I had a good start. I got a standard start and after a while was in the second group, in which we had the same pace as the first group to fight for fourth but we were five seconds back already. It was hard to overtake, my bike was quite good but perhaps I had a bit too much traction control today.”
