Recap 2010: bwin Grande Premio de Portugal’s comprehensive summary of the 17th round of the season at Estoril offers you the chance to re-live the best of the action, with easy one-click access to video highlights.

The penultimate round of the 2010 season at Estoril saw Jorge Lorenzo racing in Europe for the first time since being crowned as MotoGP World Champion, and after a rousing welcome home in Mallorca the week before the Fiat Yamaha rider was to experience more joy as Round 17 progressed.

Horrendous weather conditions however meant that the opening practice for the premier class was a write off, but when the riders were able to take to the wet track Lorenzo topped both the second and third sessions, escaping uninjured from a crash on the Saturday morning.

The worsening weather meant that the QP sessions for all categories were cancelled and the starting grid based on the combined practice times, handing Lorenzo his seventh pole of the season. Also making special preparations for the race were Dani Pedrosa – making his return from injury having missed three races – and Carlos Checa as he started his two-race stint with Pramac Racing.

Race day’s arrival also brought a reversal in weather conditions, and whilst the Paddock Girls braved the cold winds the MotoGP riders lined up for what was a dry race in which Lorenzo took his eighth win of the season, ahead of Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso. A crash on the sighting lap for Ben Spies prevented the American from taking his place on the grid.

In the Moto2 category Stefan Bradl took his first win of the season, whilst Marc Márquez’s tenth win of the year in an extraordinary 125cc race put him within touching distance of the title.

In the weekend-concluding post-race press conference Lorenzo, Rossi and Dovizioso gave their reactions to the Round 17 result.
