Xavi and Rossi exchange pleasantries

The FC Barcelona footballer was present at Sunday's Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya where he met riders such as Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Toni Elías.

FC Barcelona footballer Xavi Hernández paid a visit to Montmeló on Sunday for Round 5 of the 2011 MotoGP World Championship, where he rubbed shoulders with the stars of the premier class of motorcycling.

The decorated midfielder took a look inside the Ducati Team garage where he was greeted by Valentino Rossi, a passionate football fan. The duo – Xavi also a big fan of 'The Doctor' and MotoGP – shared a few moments in the box prior to the start of the race as they expressed their mutual admiration for one another's impressive achievements in their respective sports.

“It was more than an honour for a massive football fan like myself, and also reminded me of the time two or three years ago that he gave me his shirt as a gift,” said Rossi, who was not the only rider to receive a visit from the World Cup, European Championship and Champions League winner. Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo, whose affinity for Barca is well known, received a shirt with Xavi's number 6 on it and a message reading 'Jorge, good luck Champion!'.

Afterwards Xavi took a walk along the starting grid, and then watched the race in which Lorenzo crossed the finish line in second position and Rossi in fifth.
