Cortese the pace man as 125 field makes final checks

The 125cc warm up session ahead of the Shell Advance Malaysian Grand Prix saw Sandro Cortese lapping ahead of the field, with fellow front row starters Faubel and Terol bringing up second and third.

Third place starter Sandro Cortese (Intact Racing Team Germany) topped the morning warm up at the Sepang International Circuit with a lap of 2’13.584, over one second quicker than the rest of the field. Bankia Aspar’s Héctor Faubel paced the second quickest with team-mate Nico Terol, who starts from pole for the seventh time this year, bringing up third.

Fast learner Maverick Viñales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing) was fourth in the session and quicker than his third row qualifying pace with a lap of 2’14.853. Jonas Folger (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) followed in fifth, with Efrén Vázquez (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo), who heads the second row of the grid in his best qualifying result since Mugello lapping in sixth.

Jakub Kornfeil (Ongetta-Centro Seta) set the seventh fastest time, ahead of Luis Salom (RW Racing GP) with title rival Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) making final preparations following his crash and subsequent trouble in qualifying that landed him fifteenth on the grid.
