Alex de Angelis on top in damp Valencia warm up

The JiR Moto2 rider topped the morning warm up ahead of Anthony West and Yonny Hernández as the Moto2 field made final preparations for the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana this afternoon.

Third place Championship contender de Angelis (JiR Moto2), who starts fifth on the grid in the afternoon’s race, set the fastest time in the 20 minute warm up with a best lap of 1’50.052. Anthony West (MZ Racing) followed in second, three tenths off de Angelis with Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) third, half a second behind the Australian.

Pole position starter Michele Pirro warmed up fourth fastest in the field, with fellow Gresini Team rider and second position starter Yuki Takahashi ranking eighth in the outing.

Fifth in the warm up was Andrea Iannone (Speed Master) made up for time lost in Saturday’s rain shortened qualifying that put him 25th for the start, ahead of Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) in sixth and Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) seventh. Newly crowned Moto2 World Champion Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) warmed up 13th.

Axel Pons (Pons HP 40) did not participate in the session having withdrawn from the race due to lingering effects from his crash two weeks ago in Malaysia.
