Viñales and Kent go fastest in rain-hit Le Mans warm-up

In extremely wet conditions during the morning warm-up session for the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, it was Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales and Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Danny Kent who set the joint-fastest lap ahead of today’s race.

Rain had been predicted all weekend long, yet it was only in this morning’s first warm-up where teams got to feel the full brunt of what awaits them for the race. Moto3™ riders did however have a slight advantage, as they were the only class who got a run on a fully damp track in yesterday’s qualifying.

Both Viñales and Kent a fastest lap of 1.59’143 ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Miguel Oliveira, who was half a second off the pace. Championship leader, Kent’s teammate Sandro Cortese, had problems early in the session and returned to the pits, cutting his practice short.

The wet track caught out some of the riders, as TT Motion Events Racing’s Niklas Ajo and Thomas Sabo GP Team’s Kevin Hanus crashed out. Shortly after, Mahindra Racing’s Danny Webb and Technomag-CIP-TSR’s Kenta Fujii followed suit, yet none of the riders were injured.
