Paul Bird Motorsport to contest with own chassis in 2013

Paul Bird Motorsport has confirmed it will contest the 2013 MotoGP™ championship in the CRT class with its own chassis.

Speaking at the Hertz British Grand Prix at Silverstone last weekend, team owner Paul Bird confirmed that the team will have its own chassis ready before the end of the year, and will field a two-man effort the following season. His and the team’s desire, he stated, is to become the top CRT outfit on the grid.

The team currently runs an Aprilia ART machine with British rider James Ellison. Despite starting off the season with a string of bad results, the outfit has shown promise, taking home honours of top CRT finish at a soaking wet Le Mans. Some of the early issues with the bike sighted by Ellison so far have been electronic chatter, as well as getting the carbon discs and Bridgestone tyres dialled in the whole package.

While Bird has not given any indication as to who the riders next year will be, he did state the team will be "all British – red, white and blue". Speculation may however be rife, after PBM’s British Superbike rider Shane "Shakey" Byrne tested the ART machine alongside Ellison at the Catalunya test at the start of June.
