Iannone closing in on top three

Iannone closing in on top three

Speed Master’s Andrea Iannone is once again leading the Italian charge in the Moto2™ category after a hard fought forth place in Silverstone pushes him closer to the top three in the world championship rankings.

Iannone, who had started from the front row at the Hertz British Grand Prix, got off to a good start and was in contention for a podium position throughout. It was only at the end that he couldn’t quite match the pace of the front three, meaning he ultimately came home in fourth.

Iannone, who had a terrific start to the season fighting Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Marc Márquez to the line in Qatar looked as if he may have dropped off once the Moto2 class moved to Europe. However, a hard fought win at Catalunya and his strong finish in Silverstone leave him trailing both Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró and Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi by only 12 points, and leader Márquez by 18. And with the intermediate class so hotly contested this year, Iannone will no doubt be sensing that a challenge for first will still be possible.

Andrea Iannone

"All in all, what was really important was to get points: This year it’s critical to reap as much as possible. But we could do better and achieve more. After the warm up, I was undecided whether to make an amendment to change the bike or not. In the end we stayed as we were in qualifying: with lots of wind it worked well, but on race day the wind had dropped, and it was the wrong choice, as I was losing ground on corner exit. Otherwise, the bike worked well, and I'm happy because we are not far from the others. I'm sorry for the team because they worked hard and we could have brought home a better result. In any case, they are positive, so we’ll go to Assen in a calm mood and try to get a good result."
