Zulfahmi leads to his home Grand Prix

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and AirAsia prepare to celebrate the homecoming of the national rider, Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin at his ‘home track’ as a hero for the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix that will be held from 19-21 October 2012.

On Tuesday evening, Zulfahmi got an opportunity to mingle around with the media and his sponsors during his homecoming event at Galastic Laser Tag, Midvalley Megamall said, "I will set my sight to give more focus and more energetic performance in front of my home crowd this weekend".

"I have started this year’s season with new spirits. As I am still new, compare with the other riders, I have to work very hard to achieve a good result. Currently, I am seventh in the World Championship position. There are a lot more that I have to learn from the experienced riders," said Zulfahmi.

Zulfahmi who will be celebrating his 21st birthday on October 20, which is one day before the Malaysian GP race day said that he would try his best for pole position during the qualifying session on Saturday.

"I will strive to get top 5 during the qualifying session. But, if there are any opportunities for me to qualify with a better result, it is a bonus for me," added him.

After finishing fifth at the Twin Ring Circuit, Japan last Sunday, he feels very exuberant and ready to give his best performance in front of his home crowd this Sunday at Sepang.

Zulfahmi who is very familiar with Sepang’s track says, "I believe that my team has a strategy to make sure that my bike is ready to be pushed to the maximum."

When asked if he could get the first podium position for Malaysia this weekend, he claims, "I will try to make sure that all of the spectators in Sepang enjoy with my performance during that day. Of course I will try to grab the podium position, but it is better for me to stay focus and be ready for any possibilities."

Puan Zarinah bt Parijan, Zulfahmi’s mother, feels very grateful to have an opportunity to watch her son’s perform in Sepang this weekend.

"As a mother, I am very pleased to see my son race in front thousands of Malaysians. He is the only representative from Malaysia competing at this level. He sacrifices his childhood time to achieve his ambition to be an international rider for Malaysia. Being away from his family is not an excuse for him not to shine. Although I had to be away from Fahmi, I am very proud of him because he has put Malaysia in the world map," explained her.

Dato’ Razlan Razali, the SIC Chief Executive Officer explains that he is very proud of Zulfahmi because he could perform well since the new season of MotoGP this year.

"He has been having a great season so far and performed beyond the expectations in his first season on 250cc KTM bike. Without a doubt, podium finish for the race this weekend in Sepang will certainly make it spectacular for 2012 season," said Razlan.

AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said, "AirAsia’s journey in the MotoGP began with Fahmi when he was chosen to be part of the Wildcard Program. To see him grow from strength to strength as an accomplished rider who is now currently seventh in the Moto3 standings is definitely fantastic."

This year, two young riders Zulfahmi Khairuddin and Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah will represent Malaysia in the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix. Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah is the Malaysian Wildcard Moto2 rider, who competed at the prestigious CEV Buckler Spanish National Championship under the banner of Team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia.

These two riders will definitely gain massive support from the national spectators. By having these talented riders, it will head the Malaysian fans to Sepang to watch their lively actions and give more enthusiastic spirit for these national heroes.
