BBC Sport: ‘Crutchlow reveals contact between Yamaha and Pol Espargaro’

Cal Crutchlow has told BBC Sport that he could be replaced at Monster Yamaha Tech 3, as Yamaha is keen to sign up Pol Espargaro for the 2014 MotoGP™ season.

Crutchlow has been with the Yamaha satellite outfit since he made his debut in 2011, but believes he may be forced to move elsewhere from the start of next year. The Coventry rider says he was informed of the situation by team owner Herve Poncharal.

“He told me that Yamaha are potentially going to sign Pol and [Tech 3] will have to take him for the first time,” Crutchlow is quoted as saying. “The rumour is that he’s going to be getting a factory bike and doing a two-year deal with the Yamaha factory.”

21-year-old Pol Espargaro, younger brother of Aleix who is already racing in MotoGP™, is a current title contender in Moto2™. Last year he finished as overall runner-up to Marc Marquez.
