Mixed start for Monster Yamaha Tech 3

Mixed start for Monster Yamaha Tech 3

Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith lie third and 13th quickest on aggregate following the first two practice sessions at Mugello. However, there was another crash for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 outfit as the latter fell at Sevelli corner.

Fresh from a career-best second place finish at Le Mans two weekends ago, despite having competed with a broken leg, Crutchlow remains in some pain but was pleased with the developments of Day 1 in Italy.

"That was a very positive start to the weekend and I am happy to be in the top three and close to the best pace," Crutchlow commented.

"This morning was quite tricky, with the damp patches, but I was fast on the Wet tyres and happy with the feeling of the bike. This afternoon I was able to be in the top three in the dry and that is also very positive, but it is going to be very difficult to beat Jorge (Lorenzo) and Valentino (Rossi)…I’m not completely confident in some corners but I know my crew has some good ideas to help me improve."

Crutchlow added that the situation could be ‘tricky’ should rain return on Saturday; furthermore, he also expects the Honda-shod riders to improve as qualifying draws closer.

Teammate Smith has already been given the green light to race, having visited the Medical Centre after landing hard on his left-hand side; the Oxford newcomer was diagnosed with a scaphoid fracture to his left wrist, plus a cut to his fifth finger.
