Terol rises to second in championship

Nico Terol’s second place in the Moto2™ Gran Premio d’Italia TIM makes the Spaniard Scott Redding’s new closest challenger atop the championship table.

The Mapfre Aspar Moto2 rider was highly encouraged to have finished second from fifth on the grid, putting him level with Redding’s Marc VDS Racing Team partner Mika Kallio. The pair are now 43 points in arrears of the leading Englishman.

“I’m very happy with this second position and podium,” commented Terol, 24 and hailing from Alcoy in the Spanish province of Alicante. “I like this track a lot. On the first day in practice, we had many problems with chatter on the front.

“My bike was better (in the race); the feeling was incredible over the first laps and it just got faster. This podium is perfect for the championship and for me because the next race is in Barcelona and I like that track a lot. The championship is very long and my objective is to go race by race and then see where we are at the end of the season.”

Terol - who won Round 2 in Texas – now heads to Barcelona, where he celebrated victory in his title-winning 125 season of 2011.
