Aoyama injured at Mugello but hopeful of Catalunya return

Avintia Blusens' Hiroshi Aoyama suffered a fracture to his left thumb and medial collateral ligament damage to his left knee in a free practice Mugello crash last weekend in Italy.

After initial assessment and treatment at Mugello, Aoyama underwent further examination by trusted Barcelona based Dr. Xavier Mir at the Hospital Universitario Quirón Dexeus in the Spanish city on Monday afternoon.

Dr. Mir confirmed the extent of the hand and knee injuries which had forced Aoyama to pull out of the Mugello race last weekend.

The usual recuperation period for recovering from the type of knee injury Aoyama has sustained is around one month, but the Japanese rider has already commenced physiotherapy in order to be fit for the forthcoming Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya.

The Barcelona round of the MotoGP™ World Championship takes place from 14th to 16th June.
