Dovizioso and Hayden calm over chicane battle

Dovizioso and Hayden calm over chicane battle

Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden both agreed that the Italian’s last-corner move in the Iveco TT Assen was hard but fair, as he seized a late tenth position but forced both riders wide to be overhauled by Bradley Smith.

2006 MotoGP™ World Champion Hayden lost two places on the final lap at Assen, as Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Smith overtook both of the Ducatis on the run to the finish line.

"Considering the expectations, the race didn’t go so badly," Dovizioso began. "In the last chicane, I made a pass on Nicky that was on the limit but I don’t think it was dirty. That chicane is famous for that, but unfortunately our battle on the brakes made us slow on the exit and Smith passed us on acceleration. It’s a shame, but it just shows our difficult situation. Let’s say we limited the damage somewhat today."

Hayden also shared his take on the late-race maneuver:

"On the last lap, I didn’t get a good run through Turn 15 and Dovi came up the inside and pushed us both wide, so Smith beat us both to the line. It was a racing move and, anyway, the real problem is we got beaten by 33 seconds which shows how far behind we are."

Seven races into the campaign, Dovizioso – in his first season with Ducati – sits sixth in the Riders’ Championship, two positions and 15 points ahead of Hayden.
