De Angelis to cover for Spies at Laguna Seca

Ignite Pramac Racing has announced that Alex de Angelis will be making a brief return to the MotoGP™ premier class at the upcoming Laguna Seca round. He will substitute for Ben Spies, who should then return at Indianapolis.

Spies has been out of action since Round 2 at Austin, Texas, replaced on occasions by Michele Pirro including for the latest round at Assen last weekend.

San Marino’s de Angelis - currently competing in Moto2™ for NGM Mobile Forward Racing - will take his turn on the Pramac bike for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, marking a return to the top class of the sport for the first time since the Czech Grand Prix of 2010.

The man from San Marino will be able to take part in the second US round this year due to the fact that the Moto2 World Championship is not scheduled to race that weekend,’ a Pramac press release explains on Monday.

‘Michele Pirro, Ducati’s tester and rider, will continue to replace the Texan until Sachsenring, but will not be able to take part in the American race because he is involved in a test session scheduled at Misano from 23 to 25 July. Ben Spies is expected to return to racing at the Indianapolis Grand Prix on August 18.’

De Angelis will first sample the Desmosedici GP13 in a test session at Misano this week. His best MotoGP™ finish to date is second, achieved for the Gresini outfit in the Indianapolis GP of 2009.
