Torres quickest in incident-packed Warm-Up

Jordi Torres has topped the Warm-Up session ahead of the Moto2™ eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. Several incidents took place across the 20 minutes, including one on the start/finish straight which required a stoppage.

Torres, who will line up second on this afternoon’s grid for Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2, led with 1’24.929 from Simone Corsi (NGM Mobile Racing, fifth on the grid) and Pol Espargaro (Tuenti HP40, third on the grid and second in the standings).

Championship leader Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) team ended the Warm-Up in fourth position, ahead of his lowest 2013 start from eighth on the grid in today’s race.

Numerous crashes broke up the session. The first was for pole-sitter Xavier Simeon, as the Desguaces La Torre Maptaq rider lost control at Turn 8. The red flags then flew with two and a half minutes to go, as Technomag carXpert’s Randy Krummenacher and wildcard rider Alex Mariñelarena (TargoBank Motorsport) made contact on the straight; both riders walked away from the incident.

There were also crashes for 2010 class champion Toni Elias (Blusens Avintia) and Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT Gresini Moto2), who required trackside medical assistance. This afternoon’s Moto2™ race at the Sachsenring will begin at 12:20pm local time (GMT +2).
