Dunlop introduces new generation Moto2™ tyre

Dunlop introduces new generation Moto2™ tyre

Dunlop is introducing a new rear tyre for intermediate tier Moto2™, starting with this weekend’s event at Brno.

According to Dunlop, the new rear tyre is poised to launch a new era of compounds for the Moto2 category, which replaced the 250 class from the start of 2010.

"In Brno this week we will introduce a new rear tyre that we tested earlier this year," explains Clinton Howe, MotoGP Operations Manager at Dunlop. "We now know that since the Mugello GP we have seen a significant amount of changes to the Moto2 machine setups. We believe that new components and higher rear spring load have increased the stress levels to the rear tyres.

"Our technical department has been working hard to produce a tyre that will give the same level of consistency without taking away the grip the riders are used to. The new rear will be known as the 997 compound and will be partnered by the 3855. As usual, we will bring the 302 and 345 fronts.

"The new rear tyre will take us into a new era of compounds for Moto2 and we hope we can continue to evolve with the Moto2 machinery as the year goes to have a stronger baseline for 2014."

Dunlop is the sole tyre supplier to both the Moto2™ and Moto3™ fields.
