Espargaro leads first Brno practice session

Pol Espargaro topped the timesheets as the opening Moto2™ practice session was staged at Brno on Friday morning. The Tuenti HP 40 rider and teammate Tito Rabat sandwiched long-time pace-setter Tom Luthi into second position.

Espargaro went quickest as the chequered flag came out, posting his leading lap time of 2’03.125 which relegated Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing, who had led the way for much of the session) by three and a half tenths of a second. In third spot, Rabat was the final rider inside half a second of his teammate’s quickest time, whereas championship leader Scott Redding could manage no more than 14th position for Marc VDS Racing Team – 1.3 seconds off the leading pace.

There were issues for Gino Rea, who pushed his Gino Rea Montaze Broz Racing bike up the pit lane, whereas both Takaaki Nakagami (Italtrans Racing Team) and Marcel Schrotter (Maptaq SAG Zelos Team) endured falls. Following a crash of his own, it was confirmed that Thitipong Warokorn (Thai Honda PTT Gresini Moto2) and had suffered a non-displaced fracture of the right fibula.

Moto2™’s second practice period begins at 3:05pm local time (GMT +2).
