Nakagami leads the way in Saturday practice

Takaaki Nakagami posted the quickest time in the final Moto2™ practice session ahead of qualifying for the bwin Grand Prix České republiky. The Italtrans Racing Team rider moved ahead of Tom Luthi at the end of the session, with Tito Rabat completing the top three after his plans for the next two seasons were announced.

Grabbing the top spot in the last knockings of the session, Nakagami comfortably moved ahead of Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Luthi as his best run of 2’02.438 was almost four tenths of a second quicker. Rounding out the top three for Tuenti HP 40 was last weekend’s winner Rabat, who will be joining Marc VDS Racing Team for the next pair of Moto2™ campaigns. Behind, the first five was rounded out by Came Iodaracing Project’s Johann Zarco and Tech 3’s Danny Kent, enjoying a far more positive outing despite a small crash in the final seconds of the session.

The championship contenders were conspicuous courtesy of their absence from the top six this morning, with Pol Espargaro (Tuenti HP 40) eighth and title-leading Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) 11th, almost a full second off Nakagami’s top time; Espargaro is, however, sixth when considering the overall practice times. Other names to hit trouble were Nakagami’s teammate Julian Simon and NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Alex de Angelis, plus Thai newcomer Thitipong Warokorn who suffered another small incident on the Thai Honda PTT Gresini Moto2 machine.

Brno’s Moto2™ Qualifying session gets underway at 3:05pm local time (GMT +2).
