Marquez expecting Lorenzo challenge in Britain

Marquez expecting Lorenzo challenge in Britain

Marc Marquez heads to the Hertz British Grand Prix with a 44-point advantage over reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo. However, the Repsol Honda Team rookie believes the Yamaha Factory Racing rider could be fighting for victory this weekend.

Since MotoGP™ returned to the Northamptonshire venue from Donington Park in 2010, Lorenzo has won two of the three Grands Prix to have been staged there. With this very much in mind, Marquez – winner of the last four events at the Sachsenring, Laguna Seca, Indianapolis and Brno – is braced for a tight contest.

“We will see how Silverstone is with MotoGP,” Marquez begins. “In 125 I enjoyed it a lot but in Moto2 I struggled a little. I think a key factor will be the weather there, as it can change quite a lot! Last year Lorenzo had a very good race so I am sure he will be strong; but we are coming off four victories in a row, we have good momentum and I feel really comfortable and confident on the bike. Let's see how the situation is when we get there and as always work hard from Friday morning!”

Marquez’s closest challenger for the World Championship lead is teammate Dani Pedrosa, currently 26 points in arrears with seven events remaining in 2013.

“After Brno I'm feeling pretty good and my physical condition is improving all the time, so I hope we can take another step this weekend in Silverstone,” says Pedrosa, who broken his left collarbone in Germany. “It is a tough and fast track with many changes of direction and we need a good set to suit both the fast and slow corners. Last year was a hard race so I hope to be strong again this year! In the UK you never know what the weather will do, so let's hope for good conditions from the start.”

Repsol Honda Team has not gone without a win at Silverstone since MotoGP™ returned, as Casey Stoner triumphed in his second title-winning year of 2011. Incidentally, the circuit is the longest of the 18 on the current championship calendar.
