Italtrans retains Nakagami and Simon

Italtrans Racing Team has announced that Japan's Takaaki Nakagami and Spain's Julian Simon will be remaining with the squad for the 2014 Moto2™ season.

After last weekend’s Aragón Grand Prix in which Simon finished eighth and Nakagami fought back up to 11th after an incident, Italtrans confirmed the renewal of its two riders.

‘Italtrans has already defined its 2014 squad,’ a statement reads. ‘Takaaki Nakagami and Julian Simon have both been confirmed, as well as technicians and management. Roberto Locatelli, a former World Champion (125 class in 2000) will join them.’

"Remarkable performances by both of our guys," Team Manager Luigi Pansera commented after Sunday’s race. "Takaaki is a fighter and this race was no different. He posted his best lap time in the closing minutes and this suggests that the job done to improve the bike for the last part of the race has been successful. Julian seems regenerated and self-confident. Good job."

“This is a very good opportunity,” Simon adds, having spoken with by telephone. “I need some stability and now my future is confirmed with Italtrans. I was considering my options, but having a Kalex bike at your disposal is a real safeguard nowadays and Italtrans is another because it is a really great team with a huge heart; to remain with them gives me peace of mind and a great desire to continue challenging.”

Simon claimed the 125 title of 2009, whereas Nakagami has enjoyed five rostrums so far this year including four consecutively between the Indianapolis and San Marino GPs.
