Redding, Espargaro and Rabat: The chase is on

Redding, Espargaro and Rabat: The chase is on

With only a trio of races remaining in the Moto2™ World Championship, Britain’s championship-leading Scott Redding has not one, but two Spaniards to worry about as teammates Pol Espargaro and Tito Rabat continue to hunt him down…

With a maximum of 75 points left on offer from the Phillip Island, Motegi and Valencia rounds, Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) holds a tentative points advantage of just nine to Espargaro (Tuenti HP 40), while the latter’s teammate Rabat put in a sterling performance over the Sepang weekend to move himself to within 28 points of the man at the front.

In fact, the entire field looks strong, with the likes of Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Tom Luthi, Came IodaRacing Project’s Johann Zarco and Technomag carXpert’s Dominique Aegerter putting in great showings last time out and in likely positions to cause more upsets for the championship contenders. However, there will be many eyes peeled on whether local talent Anthony West (QMMF Racing Team) machine will be able to repeat his Phillip Island podium performance of last year. Alex Mariñelarena continues to substitute for Dani Rivas at Blusens Avintia, while Mike di Meglio’s new replacement at JiR Moto2 will be Japan’s Kohta Nozane.

Last year, a certain Marc Marquez collected the intermediate class crown in Australia. The title will definitely not be sewn up this weekend, although iconic Phillip Island will play a central role in deciding the destiny of the fourth Moto2™ season.
